Branding
Pupuseria La Estrella
La Estrella is a popular restaurant located in the beautiful city of Greenville, South Carolina. Known for its savory Salvadoran cuisine, the restaurant has garnered a lot of attention and positive feedback from diners over the years. After experiencing considerable success and growth, the restaurant decided to upgrade its logo and branding to make it more appealing and family-friendly. The owners hired OChena Design to create a new brand identity that would capture the essence of the restaurant and its offerings.
To start the process, I conducted extensive research on similar restaurants and analyzed the most popular food items sold at La Estrella. Based on the findings, I decided to create characters that would resonate with customers and inspire them to dine out more frequently. After discovering that Pupusas, a traditional Salvadoran dish, was the most popular menu item, the designer decided to feature it as the central character. To accompany the Pupusa, two additional characters were created; one represented by a a traditional Salvadorian hot sauce bag, and the other by a traditional Salvadorian cabbage jar.
I worked tirelessly for several days, creating multiple drafts before finalizing the design. The objective was to create a visually appealing design that would convey the restaurant’s overall branding and aesthetic. The final design was then used to create menus, signs, business cards, flyers, and other assets required for the restaurant. Customers who visit the restaurant can now see the new branding and characters, which have become a hit with both regulars and new customers alike.
